The Walker in the Landscape
The Walker in the Landscape is a forthcoming 9 part sound collage and re-interpretation of Caitlin Kiely's project that uses personification to bring a landscape to life, exploring the dynamic between a walker and the life in which they walk on.
The text and talks with Caitlin inspired me to conduct my own sonic research into landscapes that had shifted over time through human intervention, culminating in a 3 day trip to Wales where I explored abandoned slate quarries in the mountains, interacting with them via 120mm photography, field recordings and improvisations.
These were used as the basis of the project, grounding the listener in the narrative, and contorting and shifting alongside the spoken words - my own interventions becoming apparent through modulations as the relationship between the walker and the landscape shifts over time.
The final project will be released to cassette, designed by Caitlin Kiely, in 2024
